What Type Studio is
A music analysis and generation app. Hand it a song for a read or a structure map, describe one to generate audio, or hand it a target and it reconstructs the sound. Analysis and reasoning run on Gemini, music generation runs on Lyria (Google Vertex AI) and ACE-Step (on Modal), MIDI Render plays a song's transcribed notes through a FluidSynth soundfont, and Song Structure breaks a full song into sections from the audio. Built in Flutter for iOS, Android, macOS, and web, with the backend on Google Cloud Run. Using the app means accepting these terms.
Eligibility
You must be at least 13 to use Type Studio, or at least 16 in the European Economic Area, where the digital-consent age is higher. Type Studio isn't built for children and doesn't knowingly collect their data. Signing in confirms you meet that minimum.
Your account
Sign in with email and password through Supabase Auth. Keep credentials private and sign out from devices you don't trust. No streaming accounts to connect.
Free runs and Type Pro
A small number of generations are free. After that, Type Pro is an auto-renewing 9.99 US dollars per month (or the store's local-currency equivalent), sold through the Apple App Store or Google Play depending on platform. The store charges you at purchase and again each renewal until you cancel from your store account, at least 24 hours before the renewal date. Cancelling stops future charges but does not refund the current period; refunds are handled by Apple or Google. Whether Pro is active is verified on the backend through RevenueCat, so it follows your account across devices.
Your data
Everything Type Studio computes for you (the Recommender and Song Report results, the deep-research dossiers, the 360 posters, the generated audio, the MIDI renders, the optimizer and reconstruction iterations) belongs to you. It is used only to run what you triggered, never aggregated across users for a feature, never sold, never used for training. Deletion is available anytime, under the privacy policy's retention rules.
Your uploaded content
Several modes accept an audio file you upload instead of a catalog track: the Song to Prompt optimizer and the Typer Vision Reconstruct Loop use it as a reference, Song Structure analyzes its sections, MIDI Render transcribes and plays it back, Compare Two Songs lines it up against another, and Arabic Fusion restyles it. Whatever you upload stays yours. By uploading you grant Type Studio a non-exclusive license to analyze it and store it in Cloud Storage under your prefix for as long as the run exists, nothing more. You are responsible for having the right to upload it, and the app asks you to confirm that before it accepts the file.
AI-generated content
AI output is probabilistic, produced by Gemini, Lyria, and ACE-Step. Credits, lineage, and interpretations are best-effort and can be wrong even when the prose reads confidently, so verify anything that matters. Generated audio is produced by the model from your prompt, not copied from a source recording. Even so, a model can resemble existing material, and the modes that work from a reference you provide (the Song to Prompt optimizer and the Typer Vision Reconstruct Loop) can closely reconstruct that source. Treat any closeness flag as a heads-up, not a clearance, and run your own rights-clearance before commercial use. MIDI Render is a special case: it plays back the exact notes the analysis transcribed, so its output can reproduce a copyrighted melody directly. Clear the rights to the underlying composition before distributing a render built from someone else's song. Type Studio gives no medical, legal, financial, or professional advice.
Third-party services and their terms
The app depends on Google Vertex AI (Gemini and Lyria), Modal (ACE-Step generation), Last.fm, MusicBrainz, iTunes Search, Deezer, and Apple Music, plus Apple, Google Play, and RevenueCat for the subscription. Each has its own terms governing its API traffic.
Acceptable use
Don't clone copyrighted recordings, attack or scrape the backend, or resell the outputs as a separate product. Violations can mean suspension or termination.
Intellectual property
You own your prompts and feedback. Type Studio claims no ownership of the audio it generates and passes through whatever rights the generation provider grants, subject to the AI disclaimers above; note that purely AI-generated output may not be eligible for copyright protection in some jurisdictions. The app, its prompts, code, and brand stay with Type Studio. Share generated output freely. Don't republish analyze or dossier text at scale or strip attribution.
Copyright complaints (DMCA)
Type Studio respects copyright and acts on valid notices. If you believe material you uploaded, or audio the app generated, infringes a copyright you hold, email [email protected] with: your contact details; the work you say is infringed; the material in question and enough detail to locate it; a good-faith statement that the use is not authorized; a statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information is accurate and that you are the rights holder or authorized to act for them; and your signature. Type Studio removes material subject to a valid notice, notifies the affected user, allows a counter-notice, and terminates repeat infringers. (For U.S. notices, a designated agent is being registered with the U.S. Copyright Office; until that listing is live, use the email above.)
Service availability
Best-effort, no uptime guarantee. Cloud Run scales to zero when idle and ACE-Step on Modal pays a cold start the first time its GPU spins up, so the first request after a quiet spell takes longer. A Lyria clip is roughly 15 to 30 seconds, an ACE-Step round about 1 to 3 minutes, and a multi-round optimizer or reconstruction loop several minutes. Report bugs to [email protected].
Disclaimers
Provided as is, with all faults, without warranty of any kind, express, implied, or statutory.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum the law allows, no liability for indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages. Any aggregate liability is capped at the greater of fifty Canadian dollars or what you paid in the prior twelve months.
Termination
Stop anytime. The dashboard delete control removes individual items. The privacy policy's deletion flow removes everything. Access can be terminated for cause or on reasonable notice. A full shutdown gets 30 days' notice in the app.
Changes
Terms can change. Updates bump the date above and are flagged in the app at least a week ahead.
Governing law
Ontario, Canada law governs, and disputes are heard in Ontario courts. Mandatory consumer protections in your jurisdiction still apply.
