What TYPE-02 is

TYPE-02 is a music discovery app made by Type Studio, available on iOS, Android, and macOS. A user picks one song, either by searching for it or by tapping the big button so the app can hear the song playing nearby, and TYPE-02 reads what's driving it and recommends other songs that share it. Each run is a Max Analysis, a deeper multi-step pass. A user can play a song's 30-second preview and heart the songs they like to keep them in a Liked list that follows their account. The analysis and recommendations are written by Google Vertex AI (Gemini).

Using the app means accepting these terms. Anyone who doesn't accept them shouldn't use the app.

Eligibility

A user must be at least 13 to use TYPE-02, or at least 16 in the European Economic Area, where the digital-consent age is higher. TYPE-02 isn't built for children and doesn't knowingly collect their data. Signing in is a user's confirmation that they meet that minimum. Anyone who doesn't shouldn't use the app. If Type Studio learns that someone under the age limit signed up, it deletes the account and everything tied to it.

A user's account

A user signs in with an email address and password through Supabase Auth. TYPE-02 shares its account system with the Type Studio app, so the same sign-in, credit balance, Type Pro subscription, run history, and Liked list work in both, and deleting the account deletes it in both. Supabase issues the session that TYPE-02 trusts, and the backend reads the user's Supabase user id and email on every signed-in request. A user treats their sign-in like any other credential, doesn't share it, and signs out of devices they no longer trust.

A user's data

Type Studio processes a user's data only to run what they asked for. It doesn't sell it, doesn't use it for advertising, and doesn't train any model on it. The listen button uses the microphone only while it's listening, and TYPE-02 never records or saves the audio. A user can delete a run, un-heart a song, or delete their whole account at any time; the privacy policy explains what each removes.

AI-generated content and song recognition

TYPE-02's analysis and recommendations are written by Gemini, and AI output is probabilistic. Descriptions of a song's sound, history, or lineage, and the reasons given for a recommendation, are best-effort and can be wrong even when they read confidently. A recommended song may not be available in a user's region or on their streaming service. A user should verify any claim before relying on it for anything that matters.

Song recognition can also miss, or name a different version of a song, such as a cover, a remix, or a live take. Each result names the song it analyzed.

TYPE-02 does not give medical, mental-health, legal, financial, or other professional advice. Nothing the app produces substitutes for a qualified human.

Third-party services and their terms

TYPE-02 relies on Google Vertex AI (Gemini) for analysis; on Apple's ShazamKit and Shazam service to name the song a user listens to; on Apple Music, Last.fm, Deezer, iTunes Search, and Spotify for song search, song details, and 30-second previews; on Supabase for sign-in; on RevenueCat with the Apple App Store or Google Play for subscriptions; and on Sentry for error reports. Each has its own terms. Previews and cover art come from those music services, and TYPE-02 doesn't host or sell full-length songs. Opening a song on Spotify, Apple Music, or Deezer takes a user to that service, where its own terms apply.

Acceptable use

A user must not attack the backend, probe it for exploits, scrape it, automate requests to it, or send requests beyond what the app issues. A user must not use the app to get around a music service's or a rights holder's terms, must not republish the app's analysis or recommendations at scale or as a competing product, and must not use the app for anything the laws where they live prohibit.

To keep the service fair, an account runs one analysis at a time, and Type Studio may limit how many runs an account can start in a given period.

Type Studio may suspend or terminate access for any of these. It aims to give notice when possible, but reserves the right to act first if the abuse is causing harm.

Intellectual property

The app, its prompts, its code, and the TYPE-02 and Type Studio names belong to Type Studio and stay that way. The songs, cover art, and previews shown in the app belong to their rights holders and reach the app through those services' official interfaces. A user owns what they type into the app, such as searches, and any feedback they send.

A user may share a result with friends. A user may not republish the analysis text at scale, in a way that competes with TYPE-02, or with its attribution removed.

Type Studio respects copyright and acts on valid notices. Anyone who believes something in TYPE-02 infringes a copyright they hold sends a notice to [email protected] with: their contact details; the work they say is infringed; the material in question and enough detail to locate it; a statement that they have a good-faith belief the use is not authorized by the rights holder or the law; a statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information is accurate and that they are the rights holder or authorized to act for them; and their signature (electronic is fine).

Type Studio removes or disables material that is the subject of a valid notice. Submitting a notice known to be false can expose the sender to liability.

(For U.S. notices, a designated agent is being registered with the U.S. Copyright Office; until that listing is live, send notices to the email above.)

Billing, subscriptions, and credits

TYPE-02 is free to start: a new account receives 15 complimentary starter credits. Once those are spent, continued use requires Type Pro, an auto-renewing monthly subscription ($9.99 per month in the United States, or the local-currency price the store displays) sold through the Apple App Store or Google Play. The store shows the price before purchase, and that is the price charged. Each billing period comes with 200 credits.

Each run costs a posted number of credits, currently 5 credits per run. The home screen shows the cost and the user's balance before they start a run, and the backend charges the amount the app showed. Credits are charged when a run starts, and a run that can't start isn't charged.

Credits have no cash value and can't be transferred, sold, or exchanged for money. When Type Pro starts and at each renewal, the balance is set to that period's 200 credits, so unused credits don't carry over.

The user's store account is charged at confirmation of purchase and again at each monthly renewal, until they cancel. A user manages or cancels the subscription in their App Store or Google Play account settings at least 24 hours before the renewal date; cancelling stops future charges but does not refund the current period. Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their policies, not by Type Studio. Whether Pro is active is verified on the backend through RevenueCat, so the entitlement follows the account across devices and into the Type Studio app. If the price changes, the new price applies only from the next renewal and only with whatever notice the store requires.

Service availability

TYPE-02 is best-effort. The backend scales to zero when idle, so the first request after a quiet period takes longer. A run usually takes 30 to 60 seconds. Song recognition needs a network connection and microphone permission. Type Studio makes no uptime guarantee. When something breaks it gets fixed when possible, and bugs reported to [email protected] get triaged faster than the ones that go unseen.

Disclaimers

The app is provided as is, with all faults and without warranty of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. Type Studio doesn't warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or free of harmful components.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent the law allows, Type Studio is not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages arising from a user's use of the app, including lost data, lost profits, lost revenue, business interruption, or wasted time. If a court disagrees, its total aggregate liability for any claim is capped at the greater of fifty Canadian dollars or whatever the user paid in the twelve months before the claim.

Termination

A user can stop using TYPE-02 at any time. The delete control on a run in Your analyses removes that run, and Delete Account under Settings, Manage Account removes the account and the data tied to it, as the privacy policy describes. Deleting the account doesn't cancel Type Pro; a subscriber cancels it in their store account settings.

Type Studio can terminate a user's access for cause (violation of these terms, abuse, fraud, legal request) or for any other reason on reasonable notice. If Type Studio shuts TYPE-02 down entirely, it announces the date in the app at least 30 days in advance.

Changes

Type Studio may update these terms. When it does, the "Last updated" date at the top of this page changes, and for a material change the app asks the user to review and accept the new terms before they continue.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario, Canada, and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Any dispute is heard in the Ontario courts. A user protected by mandatory consumer law in another jurisdiction keeps the protections that law gives them; nothing here removes them.
